The Cinque Terre (Italian pronunciation: [ˈtʃiŋkwe ˈtɛrre]; Ligurian: Çinque Tære, meaning "Five Earths") is a coastal area within Liguria, in the northwest of Italy. It lies west of La Spezia, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Over the centuries, people have built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Paths, trains and boats connect the villages and cars cannot reach them from the outside.

Together we will explore these colorful villages finding endless inspiration for our sketchbook and studio time!

AN OASIS OF RELAXATION STEEPED IN TRADITION

Our accommodation is a typical Ligurian farmhouse that has belonged to the family for generations. For years they have cultivated the vines and the olive trees, which now form the backdrop to our rooms that have been recently refurbished with the utmost respect for the environment and the traditions of the Cinque Terre, but without forgetting the modern comforts.

They are ready to offer you the warmest welcome of a family atmosphere, though it remains very important for them the utmost respect for your privacy.

The rooms are furnished with antiques, parquet floors, curtains, and fine finishes, which are only the frame to the location which has an unparalleled panoramic sea view. It is an oasis of relaxation completely surrounded by greenery and silence.

Our oasis sits on a small hill that divides the historic center of Monterosso from Fegina, the new part of Monterosso. From here you can admire the sun rising over the coast of the Cinque Terre, or enjoy the beautiful sunsets on Punta Mesco.  As visiting artists we have endless places on the property in which to find inspiration.  The beautiful covered patio and deck will become our classroom studio daily.

We are about 5 minutes by taxi or shuttle from the city center and 15-20 minutes by foot.

Important to note:

Village paths and streets are well weathered cobblestone, the ability to walk distances without assistance is required.  Please bring appropriate, comfortable footwear.  It is possible to walk from village to village.  Hikes range from 2 to 3 hours and are rather arduous.  Inclines can be steep, rocky and slippery.  Rangers will prevent people from hiking with inappropriate footwear.

Each of the small towns have some shopping.  You may find local and regional artisan gifts, t shirts, fa small grocer, pharmacy and even a hardware of sorts.  There are many great resturants and gelaterias to choose from.

Weather on the Italian Rivera is changeable.  We encourage you to dress in layers.  Mornings and evenings may be chilly while most day tempratures will be mild and lovely this time of year.  An umbrella and light rain slicker are handy item to bring along.

There is a laundry facility in the village of Monterosso where you may choose to do laundry if needed.

These villages rest on the ocean, seafood is plentiful.  If fish and seafood is not a part of your diet, be aware that your food choices will be somewhat limited.

We will attempt to accommodate food allergies to the best of our abilities, but please be ware that options are  limited in small towns.
